Review of the results from Divisions 1 and 2 of the Veterans 10-Man League matches played on Tuesday 29 April

Longwood extended their lead at the top of the Division 1 table after beating bottom-of-the-table Meltham A by 8-1. That saw them open a 5-points gap over Golcar Lib A and Kirkheaton Con A who are level on 18-points after clashing this Tuesday when the Cons beat the Libs 5-4 thanks to a 118-116 aggregate win over their rivals on their own very fast green.
Meltham A and Waterloo occupy the bottom two places in the table and both are still looking for their first wins of the season as are Lockwood Con A but who have managed to accrue 10-points from their three defeats to date. Waterloo suffered a heavy 2-7 home defeat by Rastrick this week whilst Lockwood Con A were beaten by Lindley Lib A which was a first win for them.
Lowerhouses might be getting their title challenging form in order after a 7-2 home win over Marsh United A who were the latest team to have suffered at the hands of the reigning Champions. Clayton West picked up three points away to Cowcliffe but that wasn't enough to stop them dropping two places to 5th but they remain well involved in matters at the top end of the table for now.

There were only two away winners in Division 2 this week but they were the two that counted as they were for the two Elland teams who continue to stretch away from the chasing pack at the top of the tanble. Elland WMC crept a point nearer to the leaders by beating bottom-of-the-table Denby Dale by 7-2 to reduce the gap to Elland C&BC to just two points who won 6-3 ar Milnsbridge A who then drop a place to 5th as a result.
An 8-1 home win for New Mill A over Almondbury BC A shot them up the table moving from 7th to 3rd. Following in their slipstream is Shepley who move into 4th place from 8th after a 7-2 home win over lowly Golcar Lib B. First wins of the season for Thongsbridge A and Lindley BC A by the same 7-2 scoreline and both at home to Broad Oak A and Netherton Con A respectively.
The biggest gap between teams in the updated table is the 5 points between 2nd and 3rd which shows already the dominance that the two Elland teams have over the rest of the Division 2 teams and it increasingly looks like both teams are destined to remain in the promotion places all season so the real interest here is, apart from which of them will take the title, which two teams will occupy the relegation places this year. Lots of candidates but the fact that every team has already won at least one of their first 3 League fixtures points to a regular swapping of places as the season progresses.
