Elland still causing shock waves in Team KO

Veterans League

Six of the eight quarter-finalists in the Team KO are Division 1 teams with Elland WMC once again proving to be the competition's surprise package. After a first round win over the reigning Team KO winners and Division 1 Champions, Golcar Lib A, the newcomers from Elland knocked out the current Division 1 leaders, Lowerhouses, and they didn't need their 22 handicap start to achieve that either. A 171-123 scoreline with winners in 5 of the 7 games proved that they are a force to be reckoned with and not only in this competition I suspect.

Currently they sit in third place in the Division 3 table, 10 points behind the leaders but their Team KO achievements show the potential of the team and those Fantasy League punters who selected the new boys from the start of the season are looking good. In the quarter-finals they will face Cowcliffe who beat Clayton West 146-107 and no team is going to fancy meeting the giantkillers from Elland WMC especially with a hefty handicap advantage.

The only other non-Division 1 team still in contention is the Division 2 team from Lindley Lib A who defeated another Division 3 team in Outlane. Their reward for that is a match against Longwood who were involved in a close encounter before knocking out fellow Division 1 team Netherton Con A by 141-135.

Lockwood Con A and Rastrick will meet in the quarter-finals to be played on Friday 24 May but not before both teams survived close calls against Division 2 opponents. Five-times-winners of this competition, Lockwood Con A, finally overcame Thongsbridge A by 128-123 whilst Rastrick had an even closer call before eliminating Almondbury BC A by 135-133.

Lindley BC A progressed after Meltham A withdrew from the competition and they will meet Waterloo in the quarter-finals after they had a comfortable 135-109 victory over Linthwaite Hall on the Primrose Hill green.
