Does this League Rule need changing?

Veterans League

I have received a couple of comments now about one of the Veterans League Rules that might be worth sharing with you. This could indictate whether there is any interest in pushing for a change to Veterans League Rule 'Matches 8e' which says:

8e) No player can play in league games for two different teams on the same day. Any infringement of this rule will result in a loss of 0-21 in both games involving that player.

There may be times when a club deliberately works around this rule by using ineligible bowlers in the match result record on Bowlsnet. There will be more times that such a breach of the rule is accidental and the punishment is out of proportion to the crime itself. To penalise two teams with 0-21 match score turnarounds for one accidental error will seem too excessive to some. Not sure how you differentiate between accidental and deliberate though. Maybe a fairer punishment would be that the penalty is only aimed at the second team to have used that bowler.

One team is considering putting a rule amendment to the League's AGM next February, but only if they feel that there is groundswell support for such a change. You can influence their decision by your comments below.

Would you support a change to this rule? Have your say on this matter using the Comments box below.

IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE RULE IS A BIT HARSH. WHEN THE BOWLER HAS PLAYED FOR THE FIRST CLUB HE HAS NOT BROKEN THE RULES. THIS CLUB MAY BE UNAWARE THAT HE HAS PLAYED FOR A SECOND CLUB. WHEN HE HAS PLAYED FOR THE SECOND CLUB HE HAS BROKEN THE RULES AND SO PENALISE THIS CLUB.
