Veterans League Review of results of the 10-Man League Divisions 1&2 fixtures played on Tuesday 20 August
Lowerhouses have stretched their lead at the top of the Division 1 table after the latest round of matches and now have an 18 points comfort zone to Marsh United A in second place. A 7-2 away win against one of the rivals, Waterloo, has sent that rival team spinning down into the bottom half of the table. Marsh United A picked up 5 points from their trip to Rastrick where a tied aggregate score of 131-131 featured. That along with a 6-3 home win for 3rd-placed Longwood over Lockwood Con A sees the leaders sitting comfortably ahead of the chasing pack with 6 fixtures still to be played.
Five teams follow in the 70's points marker led by Cowcliffe who had a 7-2 home win over struggling Clayton West who remain in the relegation places which increasingly looks like a three-way contest to settle this matter. Netherton Con A and Lindley BC A are both involved in that threesome and both lost their matches this week. Netherton 2-7 at Golcar Lib A and the Lindley team by 1-8 at Kirkheaton Con A.
The match that could have been a promotion decider in Division 2 only concertinaed the issue as Elland C&BC beat Lindley Lib A 6-3 to close the gap between them to 3 points. That left the leaders, Meltham, going further clear after their 6-3 away win at Thongsbridge A.
All 6 teams in the bottom half of the table are involved in a relegation dog-fight. Almondbury Lib look increasingly doomed to go down and are now 16-points short of safety after a 4-5 home defeat to Milnsbridge A this week. The next 5 teams ahead of them are only separated by 7 points and positions change on a weekly basis.
This week it is the turn of Linthwaite Hall to drop into the second relegation place after a 1-8 loss at Shepley. They are overtaken by three teams who all picked up good points from their Tuesday fixtures. Golcar Lib B lost at Broad Oak but 4 points was sufficient to vacate the 2nd relegation place whilst wins for the Broad Oak team and Almondbury BC A, 6-3 at home to New Mill A, lifted them up the table although they all remain in the relegation mix still to be run and may not be resolved until the final week of the season.
