Preview of the Division 9 fixtures scheduled for today Friday 6 November

For the first time in the Winter League's 7-year history we have a Division playing their regular fixtures on a Friday. Welcome to Thorpe Green, the home of Division 9 teams for the next 4 months.

FRIDAY'S action takes place on the green at Thorpe Green with the Division 9 teams starting their season. This league sees the introduction into the Winter League of two new teams, Elland WMC B and Rastrick B.

The Elland side start their campaign with an outing against a Meltham B side who were relegated from Division 8 at the end of last season. Rastrick will be in action against Kirkheaton Con C, a side that finished in fifth spot last season with eight wins to their name.

The other team relegated into this division are Linthwaite Hall B who finished at the foot of Division 8 last season. They start their season against Mirfield C who could only muster four wins last term as they struggled to sixth spot in the league ladder.

Kirkheaton C&BC B finished in third position last season and have an attractive start to the season with a game against a Marsh Lib B side who finished one place and two league points below them last season.

Can I take this opportunity to remind all teams about two matters.

1. Measuring: When bowlers call for the measurers to decide the outcome of an end they are calling to everyone stood on the sidelines. It is not the sole responsibility of the host club to undertake measuring duties. We ask them to provide a long tape and that is where their responsibility ends. All teams should have at least one team member carrying a tape to be used in any match on the green. So when bowlers call for a measure they should be overwhelmed with responses to banish the delay in completing that end. This becomes more important as the cold wet weather becomes more frequent. We don't want us old folks standing around waiting for a measure in the cold.

2. Bowlsnet: Bowlsnet is a wonderful invention but it only comes into its own if captains fill in the results and verify their opponents' completed scores. It is the responsibility of the 'home' team (the first one in the fixture list) to complete the uploading of the match result on the system. Teams are very good about getting results on the system very quickly and it is a rare occurrence if the result is not added on matchday. Having said that it doesn't matter which team completes the inputting of the result. What does matter is that the other team verifies the result. If a team finds a wrong result or a wrong scoreline in any of the games then they should contact the League Secretary to get it corrected. Team captains cannot correct scores on the system. This becomes more important as the season progresses because team members will be looking at their playing records and a wrong scoreline can damage any bowler's chances of winning a Division's end-of-season Top Bowler award.
