Preview of the Division 8 fixtures to be played on Tuesday 27 January

The final day of the Division 8 teams' season is on Tuesday when the destination of the Champions title will be determined. Lockwood Con C and Hemplow are the two contenders and both have already won promotion. The home team of Lockwood Con C hold a four-points lead over their only rival for the title but have a more difficult final day opponent when they take on the 2024-25 Division 8 Champions, Golcar C&BC. When the two teams met earlier in the season the Golcar ladies came out as 6-2 winners and the same result on Tuesday could see the title slip through their opponents' fingers.
Hemplow will not have it easy as they take on 4th in the table, Broad Oak B, although they did beat them 8-0 earlier in the season and they can do no more than a repeat of that result which could be enough to go top. It is possible that both teams could end up level on points. The League Rules stipulate that in such an event the team with the higher 'Aggregate For' total prevails. Currently, the 'Aggregate For' totals are Lockwood Con A 706 Hemplow 705.
The intention is to present the Champions Trophy to the new Champions immediately after the last match comes off the green. We hope that teams will stay back to applaud and congratulate the Division Champions, whichever one it is.
Two of the bottom three teams will also have their fate decided on the final day with Cowcliffe C (30pts) meeting with Meltham B (34 pts) the big game of the day. Linthwaite Hall B are sat between the two and in the 2nd relegation place when they take on Mirfield B. The Mirfield team have won 3 of their last 4 fixtures and did win the return match when the two teams met earlier in the season and will be favourites to win again which would be bad news for the Linfit team.
