Division 2 Pairs KO Qualifiers

Winter League

This week we had the experience of two qualifying rounds of the Pairs Knock-Out being played on the same green at the same time. The Division 2 qualifier had been postponed two weeks before because of a waterlogged green. With only 6 entrants from the Division 2 teams it was deemed suitable to run in parallel with another qualifier featuring a small number of entrants. With just 9 entrants from the Division 8 teams this was seen as a suitable match.

The Division 2 bowlers arrived for the arranged later start time of 12noon. The draw was made and managed to keep the Clayton West two pairs and the Meltham pairs apart from each other. The Inter-District bowlers were identified and handicapped accordingly and the competition was underway.

The husband and wife team of Ann and Jeff Smith caused a bit of an upset by eliminating the Clayton West pairing of Haigh and Rhodes 21-5 to progress to the First Round where they came against their teammates Gibson and Addy. They proved to be too good over a longer mark tactic and went through with a 15-8 scoreline over 15 ends.

In the other half of the draw the all Inter-District pairing of Poulter and Gilbert failed to come to terms with the over the crown path used by their New Mill opponents and went down 6-21

All the Qualifying Rounds are played at Thorpe Green

All have an 11.00am start time and all matches are at Thorpe Green.

There is still time to enter any of the remaining two Division Qualifying Rounds as listed above. Bowlers only need to have played one League match before the date of the qualifying round to qualify to enter.
