Veterans League
A preview of the fixtures in the Veterans 6-Man League for Monday 17 June
Waterloo are the Division 1 form team in the Veterans 6-Man League having won their last seven fixtures. Yet the top spot in the table continues to allude them as Marsh United A deny them that privilege with a run of five straight wins. Maybe this week will be the turning point although both teams have home matches against bottom half opponents. Waterloo host a Brockholes A side that have lost their last 4 away matches and Marsh United A will look to preserve their 3 points lead with a home match against Paddock I&C who still seek their first away win of the season.
Last week's whitewash defeat for Skel Windmill A saw them lose top spot and drop to fourth position and they must restart their title bid with a home match against Slaithwaite who had a first win in six matches last week. Third-placed Netherton Con are the only team in the top six with an away match this week and they go to Golcar C&BC who have won 4 of their 5 home matches this season.
Crosland Moor are the only bottom-four team with a home match this week and the opportunity to dent the hopes of fellow strugglers Thongsbridge A is an opening not to be missed if they are serious about retaining their top-flight status. Bottom-of-the-table Lockwood Con have to go to play Shepley A who have discovered some form after a lethargic start to the season and they have won their last four matches and will expect to continue that run against the team with one win in nine. Milnsbridge A and Lindley Lib A will meet in a mid-table clash with neither side showing any consistent form or hopes of shooting up the table.
There is a big set of Division 2 fixtures this Monday that could go a long way to determining the shortlist to continue bidding for the title. The top two teams are locked together on 54 points as Golcar Lib and Clayton West continue to set a hot pace. Two of the main chasers take their chances against the leaders with 5th-placed Marsh Lib A entertaining Golcar Lib whilst Clayton West host third-placed New Mill A. Whatever the outcome of those matches the top two teams will still hold the prime positions due to their current leads but if this is to become anything other than a two-horse race for honours then things must start to change this week.
Fourth-placed Bradley & Colne will have as much interest in any drop in form of the top two and with a home fixture against a struggling Hemplow side are poised to close the gap on the two promotion favourites. The clash of the bottom two teams presents winless Elland C&BC with their best chance of a first win of the season as home advantage must start to count soon although a 16-point deficit means it will take more than a first win to raise hopes of avoiding relegation.
The top three teams in Division 3 all have home fixtures this Monday and all will expect, and need, to win them. The leaders by one point are Denby Dale who play Primrose Hill Lib who have lost their last two matches by the same 1-6 scoreline. Second-placed Brockholes B host 5th placed Greenhead Park B who have only lost to the leaders in their last four matches.
Apart from the leaders Thongsbridge B and Holmfirth B are the division's form teams having both won their last four matches. The teams play each other and Thongsbridge's home advantage could prove decisive. Only Primrose Hill Lib in the bottom five have a match this Monday as Shepley B, Meltham, Thongsbridge C and Brockholes C all play Friday matches this week.
