Winter League

Division 3 fixtures at Springwood on Wednesday 21 October

The first round of fixtures for the 2026-27 Winter League season is this Wednesday at Springwood BC when the eight teams in Division 3 begin their 14-week season which will end up with two of them being promoted and two more relegated. The weather forecast isn't great, but that's Winter bowling for you.

New photos show that the green has made a full recovery from the Summer drought and, in the words of Springwood greenkeeper. John Pix, he has 'never seen it looking better'.

LOCKWOOD CON A narrowly missed out on promotion last season on the Springwood Green but were just two points clear of fourth-placed Almondbury BC B. Those two teams meet on Wednesday with the Almondbury team looking for a repeat of their 6-2 wins, the first of which was recorded on the first day of the 2025-26 season!

The two teams dropping into this division, Lowerhouses B and Milnsbridge A also go head-to-head on the first day of the season. The Lowerhouses team only had two wins last term, their second was a 8-0 beating of Wednesday’s opponents on the last day of the season.

Three clubs are promoted to Division 3 this season; Elland WMC A and Primrose Hill Lib moving up from Division 4. It will be interesting to see how the Pip Hill team perform in what will be their first Winter League season bowling on a green other than their home green at Primrose Hill. They start their season bowling against Mirfield Old Bank who finished last season as champions of Division 5. An interesting start for these two teams.

The final fixture on the opening day is between Elland WMC A and Lindley Lib B. The Elland side were promoted after winning ten of their 14 games in last season’s Division 4 at Primrose Hill and face a Lindley Lib side who finished mid-table last term.
