Cowcliffe feeling the heat in title race

Veterans League

A review of Tuesday's results in Divisions 1, 2 and 3 of the Veterans 10-Man League

Golcar Lib 'A' won for a fifth successive time when seeing off Lockwood Con 'A' by 6-3 and maintained their 12-points lead at the top of the Division 1 table as a result. That pace proved to be too hot for Cowcliffe, who were beaten 2-7 by a revived Elland C&BC side winning for the 6th consecutive time, and Cowcliffe drop to third as Rastrick overtake them after winning 6-3 over Waterloo who stay fourth.

All six matches in this division went the way of the home teams including the one at Lowerhouses with a 6-3 victory over Longwood who remain in trouble in the second relegation place. The bottom spot being reserved for Milnsbridge 'A' almost all season and a 1-8 away defeat at Kirkheaton Con 'A' did them no favours at all with the home team returning to the top half of the table as a result.

Marsh United 'A' extended their losing run to six matches when going down 1-8 to Clayton West who move above them and up to 9th place.

An 8-1 away win for Lindley BC 'A' over Linthwaite Hall sent them level top of the Division 2 table alongside Lindley Lib 'A' who had a bye week. Shepley missed the chance to go top after losing at home 4-5 to Almondbury BC 'A' who returned to form after 3 defeats in their four previous matches.

A fourth win in five for Netherton Con 'A' pushed them into title contention once again with Holmfirth 'A' on the wrong end of that result and still languishing in the relegation places. Bradley & Colne were one man short and suffered their third 0-9 reversal of the season with Thorpe Green the benefactors this time. Broad Oak 'A' got the edge in a 5-4 home win over Thongsbridge 'A' where a 131-128 aggregate difference was key in deciding the outcome. New Mill 'A' had a good 8-1 home win over Hemplow 'A' who dropped a place to 11th as a result whereas the New Mill team remain unmoved in 7th position.

The one match played in Division 3 this week was a key one as Golcar Lib 'B' took 4 points from their visit to Slaithwaite to take over at the top of the table with only a 12-chalk better Aggregate For total separating them from Almondbury Lib. By winning this match Slaithwaite moved up a place to 7th position.
