Bumper entry for Div.6 Winter Cup Qualifier

There is a big turnout of entries for the Division 6 Qualifying Round of the Winter Cup to be played at Netherton Con on Thursday 19 February from 11.00am. There has been a record entry of 157 bowlers in total and 26 of them are in the Division 6 competition.

A bumper entry of 26 bowlers means some adjustment to the format to avoid bowlers waiting for two hours before playing their first match and to avoid the whole event stretching out over 5 hours these changes being:

• Five jacks will be on the green from the opening round

• Matches will be of 15-ends or 21-up whichever comes first

• The final round will be scrapped and the last four bowlers will all go through to the Round of the Last 24.

This format worked well for the 28 bowlers entered into the Division 7 Qualifying Round especially when the weather was so wet and cold. Hopefully the weather will be better on Thursday but regardless of that, this changed format will reduce time at both ends of the day.

Bowlers need to have played one League match to be eligible to enter the Winter Cup. Bowlers need to be aware of the later round dates which are both held at Huddersfield RUFC. S
