I am grateful to Chris Squires for sending me copy of a Facebook piece on the Scottish bowling front when there is clearly some unrest about the finances of Bowls Scotland. Sound faniliar?
As we said over a week ago, your Capitation Fees are increasing……….by minimum TWO POUNDS per person! That’s an extra £100,000 to Bowls Scotland, giving them a total (approx) of £400,000pa from our country’s bowlers! Where does this money go?
BS only have the Nationals Finals week to run, and their failed Top 10s, as far as I’m aware, and we pay an entry fee for the Nationals, which are run by volunteers right up to the finals week.
If Sport Scotland funding is for High Performance bowling, set last year at nearly half a million pounds, why do they need more from us, given there’s probably only 3000/4000 players involved at Northfield, and even less involved in HP bowling?
Yes, I’ll mention it again…………is the near half million in salaries all paid by SS funding?
I genuinely don’t get it. I really don’t.
For comparison, the SCCBA run 5/6 major competitions each season, and NOBODY takes any salary. Not even expenses or honorariums!
They do it for their love of our game.
I/We won’t advise others what to do. But it’s time we stood up and said “Enough is enough”!
Remember, our season lasts about 5 months, yet BS staff are paid 12 months.
Too many clubs have closed down, and there’s more coming soon. The membership fees we pay our clubs are important to our clubs, and needed by our clubs to stay alive.
It’s up to you/us to put a stop to this.
There are other comments along these lines on the Scottish Bowlers Facebook page.
