Bowling News
Blackpool has long been recognised as the centre point of crown green bowling in this country. The iconic green at the Waterloo has always been dubbed the 'Wembley of Bowling'. But with the closing down of that green with a new land owner's failed push to take over bowling, the status that was once automatic and never challenged all changed.
However Blackpool could be on the verge of making a comeback. Not at the Waterloo, that boat has sailed long ago, but at the new venue of the Marton Institute. There are moves from this big sports and leisure provider to move seriously into the fore of the bowling season.
The flyer at the foot of this posting provides more information about what is proposed but the headlines are:
A one-day bowling competition for 32 bowlers with entry by invitation only, no entry fee
£4,400 Prize Fund
Qualifying feeder competitions from all over the country
Separate men's and ladies' competitions
Special 4-person team event
New title 'Blackpool Masters'
All the above three competitions played over one weekend
That first weekend date has already been selected and work is being concentrated around hitting that weekend delivery. The dates being 18-20 September 2026.

Blackpool has long been a favourite with families for holidays but with the added attraction of a couple of days for dad to watch top bowling competitions at the same time might be a big seller.
This is what the flyer posted on Facebook is saying about this new initiative.
It's official I'm bringing a weekend of bowls back to sunny Blackpool in 2026 I must be mad with committee members Tommy King, Ricky Cochrane, Gary Ellis and Sharron King.
