Bowling News
At last someone in the BCGBA is starting to take communications seriously. Steve Clamp has taken to the BCGBA Facebook pages to post this review of the opening day of the Ladies Championship. We hope this is a sign of things to come and have reproduced his posting in full below.
The sun came out yesterday for the first day of the Ladies County Championship.....and everyone was treated to some great matches!!!
Starting with Section 1, Burton and District came out on the right side of a close match with Wales. With both teams winning their respective home matches, Burton came out with the 2 points with a 16 chalk win on aggregate.
The other match in Section 1 was a similar affair. South Yorkshire had a strong home result at Thurgoland (+56), whilst a 40 chalk home win for North Midlands pushed them all the way. 2 points for the South Yorkshire ladies, also with a 16 chalk margin.
Section 2 saw a very strong Warwick and Worcester team win both home and away against Dudley and District. Driven by an 85 chalk win at The Raven, the overall result was an 86 chalk win, and the 2 points on the Championship table.
The 'Clash of the Day' saw defending Champions Shropshire repeat last year's form and beat Yorkshire in another very close match. A Yorkshire victory at Kirkheaton Conservative Club by 32 chalks looked to have been a strong platform, but Shropshire's home team took full advantage of the green at Sinclair Sports with a 45 chalk win. Two points and a 13 chalk aggregate won for Shropshire.
Section 3 saw the closest match of the day. Greater Manchester and Lancashire both had extremely close matches at both venues (7chalks and 1 chalk respectively). In the end, Greater Manchester came out on top, by just 6 chalks, to claim the 2 points.
Section 3's second match saw a dominant home performance, at King Alfred, lead the Cumbria ladies to a 46 chalk win against Mid Cheshire. Having 11 winners at home (+85) set the scene, whilst Mid Cheshire's strong performance at Tarvin BC (+38) couldn't quite reverse their fortunes.
On to Section 4 and we saw two big wins across the matches. North Lancs and Fylde started their campaign on Parkfield Labour Club, and delivered a dominant home performance with 11 winners and an aggregate win of 46 chalks. This said, it was the performance at Parkside BC that saw North Lancs and Fylde come out on top, with their away team beating a good Cheshire home team by 27 chalks. Two points for North Lancs and Fylde with an aggregate win of +73.
Merseyside played their home match against North Derbyshire at Manor Road BC, and delivered a 17 chalk home victory. However, North Derbyshire had different ideas in their home leg. A clean sweep of winners at Staveley Kind George saw an aggregate win of 155 chalks (Performance of the Day??). Two points to North Derbyshire to start the campaign, and a significant +138 chalk aggregate.
In the President's Section, North Shropshire took on a strong Staffordshire side, with the latter coming out victorious by 26 chalks. Both teams won the respective home matches, at District BC and Fenton Private, but the 39 chalk home win for Staffordshire helped them win the match.
We now move on to the second round of matches on Sunday 16th June.....and everything's still there to be played for.
