Dave Parkin provides an update on the Yorkshire qualifiers for the BCGBA Champion-of-Champions competition.
When I last did an article about Yorkshire players at Owley Wood on the last Saturday in September, there were 9, this now stands at 13. There are 12 more players needed so not beyond the realms of possibility that 25% of the field will be from Yorkshire.
The first to add their name to the list was BCGBA Junior Merit winner, Harley Tattersley who won the event at Heswall RBL beating Yorkshire Junior County teammate Charlie Ripley in the final on Saturday 16th August.
Later that evening, Scott Fisher won the Brighouse Classic to book his place in the field.
The following day at Pudsey, 2023 Yorkshire Merit winner, Robbie Ellis who went on that year to finish runner-up to Greg Smith in the Champion of Champions won the Pudsey Classic. The Skipton based bowler bowls for Littlemoor but bowls for Greater Manchester but I’m claiming him as a Yorkie.
The final Yorkshire based player in the field is Danny Beeby who won the inaugural Golcar Lib Classic last Saturday. At the time of the win, the Golcar Lib winner was 1st reserve but after Callum Wraight’s exploits this weekend in winning 2 more qualifying events, Danny will now play at Owley Wood & have a shot at winning a big National title after winning a local one.
