Andy Lumb just misses 2nd Vets title
Veterans League
Kirkheaton Con bowler, Andy Lumb, just missed out on winning a second Veterans title in two days when going down in the Final of the first-ever Veterans Inter-District Merit involving 18 qualifiers. Following on from his Rose Bowl success on Thursday to reach the Final of this new competition with Castleford District the hosts, selecting the Smirthwaite Park BC at Normanton as the venue.
Tim Poulter (Clayton West) was the second Huddersfield representative and after beating John Armitage (Leeds) 21-19 he went out to Clive Foord (Bradford) who went on to complete a Huddersfield double by beating Andy in the Final 21-9. This was after Andy had beaten three bowlers , John Williamson (Halifax 21-10), Graham Perry (Skipton 21-13) and then Nick Oddy (Halifax 21-19) in the semi-final.
So no dramatic come-back this time for Andy but what a two days for the bowler playing his first full season in the Veterans League. I am really pleased that he plays for the same team as me. The full list of scores from Friday's Finals Day is below.
