Veterans League

Review of the results in the Veterans 6-Man League for Monday 1 September

The Division 1 leaders, Waterloo, were the top scorers of the day when inflicting a whitewash 7-0 home win over relegation-threatened Golcar C&BC on a day when all six fixtures resulted in wins for the home teams. The procession of teams behind them in the table saw three of the main four challengers also having home wins all with the same 6-1 scoreline. The one stand-out result in that batch was Skel Windmill A's win over Shepley A who swap 4th and 5th places as a result.

All this is bad news for the bottom teams with the bottom three all losing to retain the same running order to leave New Mill A and Brockholes A filling the two relegation places for another week.

Almondbury Lib are promoted to Division 2 for next season as a result of their 5-2 away win at third-placed Primrose Hill Lib. They are guaranteed a top two Division 3 finish and with a 12-point lead over 2nd-placed Milnsbridge B may be adding the title to their season before too much longer. Primrose Hill Lib drop to 4th place and they are almost out of the promotion picture altogether now. That result also helped Milnsbridge B get a firmer grip on the second promotion place with Denby Dale moving into third place as a result of a 6-1 win over Linthwaite Hall but 13-points behind the Milnsbridge B side.

Elland C&BC inched themselves nearer to safety with a 5-2 away win against fellow strugglers, Hemplow A, and now have a four-point lead over them.

Hemplow B remain on course to swap places with their A team for next season after a 6-1 away win at New Mill B. Confirmation of their promotion from Division 4 could happen next week and it is possible that they could be celebrating taking the title at the same time as well.

It was a bad day for Skel Windmill B as they went down 0-7 at Netherton Con B and drop two places to 4th position being overtaken by their conquerors and Clayton West B. That leaves the 2nd promotion spot very much up for grabs with three teams separated by 3 points and everything to play for.
