Veterans League
The Round of the Last 16 saw the biggest shock of the competition to date as Division 1 leaders, Lowerhouses, were eliminated by Division 2 side Almondbury BC A by 109-87. They left their indifferent league form behind them and didn't need their +13 handicap advantage to oust the competition favourites on the Springwood green.
That outcome means that there are only two Division 1 teams left in contention as two more Division 1 sides were also beaten at this stage. Strugglers Netherton Con A failing to overcome the 17 points handicap gap to Slaithwaite and Clayton West losing the all-Division 1 clash with Longwood who went through with an emphatic 111-64 scoreline.
The Kirkheaton Con A versus Lockwood Con B tie was to prove a testiment to the handicap system as the 26 points difference resulted in a 97-97 scoreline with the Kirkheaton side progressing with a 3-2 better game score. Both teams were well supported in a tense conclusion as the final two pairs clawed back the full 26 points handicap difference.
The second Netherton Con side to be eliminated at this stage was their B team who went down 110-115 to Lindley Lib A and that was the start of a good day for the Lindley Lib club as their B side also progressed after beating fellow Division 3 rivals Paddock I&C by 130-93 and the two Lindley teams will now meet in the quarter-finals.
The other all-Division 3 tie pushed two top three teams together on the same +23 handicaps with Brockholes A coming out on top by beating Denby Dale 118-90. Shepley claiming the final quarter-final place after beating Outlane 115-80. That leaves only two Division 1 teams in the quarter-finals along with 3 from Division 2 and another 3 from Division 3. The quarter-finals line-up along with the neutral greens are all listed below.
