A tale of two greens

Winter League

On Thursday I went to watch the Division 5 matches at Netherton Con first where the weather was wild with a strong wind blowing heavy bursts of rain into the faces of bowlers and spectators alike. A totally unpleasant day but it is what Netherton is reknowned for but in no way did it detract from the enjoyment of the teams playing their final round of matches of 2023. Robert Tracey has provided me with some excellent action photos which show off the conditions more than my words could ever do. They will be online tomorrow along with shots from the Christmas party afterwards.

So to move on to Lockwood Park which is only 5 minutes and 2 miles away but could have been on a different planet with almost benign conditions for the Division 6 fixture programme. The viaduct, trees and hills all contribute to the protection from the worst that the elements can throw at the gathering and there was even a two-minute sunshine break with shadows on the green that I captured on camera. Again the enjoyment and banter of the teams was there for all to see regardless of the conditions. With bacon butties available for all and then the move into the main building for a pie 'n' peas lunch, quiz and raffle all went down well as did the beer with the bar doing a good business. Photos from then to follow. For now just do with the 13 action photos from on and around the green.
