A good day for Almondbury Lib

Veterans League

Review of the Veterans 6-Man League Divisions 3,4&5 results from Monday 13 May

This is how the Division 3 top of the table looked before Tuesday's fixtures started with the leaders, Almondbury Lib, one pont ahead of a pack of three teams on 22 points.

Then after Tuesday's fixtures the Almondbury Lib side has opened up a 4-points lead with their 7-2 home win over Springwood being key to that outcome. Brockholes A and Lindley Lib B being the two prime threats to the leader's dominance but both misfired on Tuesday to lose both their matches and drop two positions in the table. Brockholes A losing 3-6 at home to a resurgent Slaithwaite team with the team sharing the better aggregate bonus points after a 128-128 scoreline. Slaithwaite after a lethargic start to the season with 3 straight defeats have won their last two matches against top three opposition and very much moving into contention and now only 3 points behind the 2nd promotion place.

Despite losing 4-5 away at lowly Marsh Lib A, Hemplow A go second followed by Holmfirth A who overtook their Tuesday visitors, Lindley Lib B after a 6-3 home win over them. That win for Marsh Lib A failed to improve their league position as the bottom three teams all won with Linthwaite Hall seeing off Thorpe Green by 6-3 and sending their opponents down into the bottom three. Lockwood Con B remain in the bottom place despite beating Paddock I&C 5-4.

The top two clash in Division 4 turned out to be a good win for the visiting Skel Windmill team who improve their lead at the top to 5 points over Marsh United B who remain second. That extended their 100% win record to 5 matches and gives thema 5 points lead in the table. The 3rd and 4th placed teams also went head-to-head with the visitors again coming out on top as Kirkheaton C&BC A won 6-3 away at the Rugby Club to go level on points with them but the better Aggregate For total (122-104) secured third place.

There were 5 away winners in the 6 Tuesday fixtures in this Division with the sole home victor being bottom-of-the-table Meltham B who beat Milnsbridge B 6-3 to move off the foot of the table and join two other teams on the 16-points marker. Those two teams being Netherton Con B and Ravensknowle Park who both lost home matches against David Brown Sports (4-5) and Huddersfield Recreation Club (3-6) respectively.

Despite losing the game count 2-5, Primrose Hill Lib did win the better aggregate score (118-115) to close the match score to 4-5 against Thongsbridge B who were another away winner on the day.

A bit of rough justice for the Division 5 leaders Lindley BC B for despite winning 6-3 away at Greenhead Park and extending their winning run to 5 matches slipped two places to third as their two main rivals both picked up impressive 8-1 home wins to pass the former leader. Dalton go top after neating New Mill B and Kirkheaton Con B had a good home win over Almondbury BC B to go level on points with the new leaders. The depsed leaders of Lindley BC B sit just a point behind the top two to make things very interesting.

A third 8-1 score on the day saw Hemplow B retain an interest in things at the top end of the table as they beat Marsh Lib B and that makes the top 4 teams only separated by 3 points.

The bottom two teams are both still searching for a first wins of the season as Kirkheaton C&BC B lost 3-6 at home to Brockholes B along with Holmfirth B who lost by the same scoreline at Broad Oak B.
