4 Teams in Division 2 title race

Ladies Works League

Review of results for matches played 2-6 August

Preview of matches to be played 9-13 August

Just three league fixtures were completed over the past week, all of them in Division 2 and the outcome has just muddied the water even more as to which team will take the top prize. With no guaranteed promotion this season the runner-up will not have a consolation prize so all eyes are on the top spot.

That place is currently taken by Paul's Kitchens despite being beaten this week by Pearce Displays by 152-132 they take over at the top as previous leaders D Haigh & Co were without a match. That lead is fragile as Pearce Displays are just 31 points behind them from the same number of matches whilst D Haigh & Co are well-positioned to return to the top with a match in hand over the top two. Then there is Holmes Dresser who have won all their 7 league matches to date, the latest being a 147-133 win over Brook Hansen 'B' this week and with two games in hand over the leaders they are well-positioned to feature prominently in the title battle.

Brook Hansen 'B' have been logging increasingly better results as the season has progressed and their second match in the past week saw them record their highest aggregate total of the season to date. A 156-122 win over personaliseHR saw them complete the double over their opponents and whilst they will not be included in the scramble for the title the continual improvement will serve them well in the future.

There are two Division 2 fixtures scheduled for the coming week with Brook Hansen 'B' travelling to meet D Haigh & Co where a win for the home side would take them back to the top of the table so a good incentive. Holmes Dresser are playing one of their catch-up fixtures, this time a home game against personaliseHR where anything other than a continuation of the unbeaten Holmes Dresser record would be a major surprise.

Three Division 1 fixtures are scheduled for next Friday (the 13th) with the top two teams in action. Leaders Atkinson Butchers will expect to extend their season-long unbeaten record with home advantage over visitors Strait Kutz Hairdressers. Second-placed Alicia Dawn Photography have a rearranged match with Bolster Farm Shop and although the nearest challengers to the leaders a gap of 250 points is a big ask of any team.

PEG Perego have their best chance of winning for the first time this season when they welcome Huddersfield Recreation Club to their Marsh Lib home green. Their visitors only win this season was in the earlier meeting of the two teams and that margin was only 11 points so PEG Perego will be looking to use that home advantage to clock up that first elusive win.

HuddWeb is now providing weekly postings covering the Matchday Preview and Results Round-Up for 5 local bowling leagues - the Mirfield League, Ladies Works League, Veterans 10-Man League, Veterans 6-Man League and the Huddersfield Winter League. Trying to fill the gap left by The Examiner.
