30 Years Ago a new Over-80s KO starts up

Thirty years ago in February 1992 the Veterans League announced a new KO competition for the coming season restricted to bowlers over 80 years of age. In anticipation of 30+ entries sponsorship had been provided by the John Ray Partnership.


The League was looking forward to the new season where a record number of 48 10-man teams had confirmed entry and there were 13 teams lined up for the 6-Man League. At the same time the Colne Valley League announced a new trophy donation and the make up of the League's 5 Divisions was confirmed.


Details of the £4,000 Moorside Garages Seat tournament to be staged at Meltham BC were released which included a £1,000 prize for the winning individual. All the details of what was happening in local bowling are covered in the Huddersfield Examiner press cutting below.
