Amazingly, Cowcliffe have been the losing finalists in the Team KO competition for the last three years. For the last two years they have lost in the Final to the same Longwood team. Prior to that, in 2023, they missed out to Golcar Lib A and they have been drawn against the same opposition this year in the opening round to be played this Tuesday.
The pick of the opening round draw sees the top two teams in the League going up against each other as Lowerhouses and Longwood go head to head. It is the only all-scratch tie of the round and the winner will become the favourite for the title. Ironically this is a repeat of an opening round tie last year when Longwood came out on top beating Lowerhouses 134-115 before progressing to the Final, where they beat Cowcliffe for a second consecutive year,
This competition is contested by the top 32 teams in the League as at the end of the previous season. Teams are handicapped as per their finishing position. The teams that finished outside the top 32 are automatically entered into the Sub-Team KO competition.
The Team KO follows the format of the League matches - four singles and three pairs. The only difference being that the result is decided on the total aggregate scores. Only in the event of a draw at that stage does the number of games won come into the reckoning to separate the teams.
