2023 v Pre-Pandemic league numbers

League News

League News

Yesterday we reported on improved numbers of teams in an increasing number of the local leagues, today we move on a little further.

The table alongside lists all 21 leagues we continue to monitor and compare their league numbers against the numbers they had just prior to the Covid pandemic. This shows that only three of those 21 leagues has moved on from their pre-pandemic numbers with three more leagues retaining the same level of support.

The totals for all 21 leagues shows a loss of almost 100 teams over the 4-year period which is exactly 10% of all the teams. Troubling. That is a huge drop in numbers over a relatively short period of time but hopefully the year-on-year drop has now reached its maximum as suggested in yesterday's analysis.

We still await the Works League numbers to be finalised for the complete rundown and they should be available next week.

There are three leagues that appear to have dropped off the radar altogether assumed defunct. It may be that they have stopped using Bowlsnet as their results reporting system or adopted some other alternative but it is unusual to see leagues acting in such a manner. I can only assume that they have stopped functioning and the team numbers previously recorded suggest that 2 of the 3 were in serious decline so their demise would not be a surprise. Maybe some of our visitors could provide updates on any of these three leagues.

This clearly shows the decline of bowling teams = almost 100 teams -10%.

The real disappointment is only 7 junior teams, so where’s the futu bowlers coming from ? Philip of Lindley
