Winter League
In what was probably the longest match of the season to date the Brockholes pairs took exactly 2 hours to beat their Dalton counterparts 21-20 in their Division 3 match on Thursday. It looked to be heading towards a much earlier finish when the Brockholes pair held a 17-6 lead in regulation time but a tremendous fightback by the Dalton pairing extended the game into 'Fergie-time'. The drama didn't end there as Dalton continued their resurgence to clock up a second consecutive 4-4 draw with a 10-point aggregate advantage to bring the teams level.
Those 4 points enabled Brockholes to take over at the top of the table although level on 34 points with Lindley BC 'B' and Thorpe Green 'C' and having played a match more. That is down to the fact that the Lindley BC 'B' v Thorpe Green 'C' match was unfinished but level at 2-2 after the two singles games had been completed. Bowler availability delaying the completion of this match with the pairs game to be staged from 10.30am next Monday. This match cannot end in an 8-0 outcome but all the other permutations are still possible and our preview forecast of a drawn encounter remains very much as a possibility.
It is not just the top three that have their sights set on the top position as only 4 points separate the top six teams who all consider themselves to be in with a chance of claiming one of the two promotion places.
Springwood 'B' won their first match of the season with a 6-2 win over Huddersfield Recreation Club 'B' which also lifted them above their opponents in the table who drop into the bottom slot.
After beating leaders Rastick 'B' 8-0 last week Milnsbridge 'B' came back down to earth when going down 2-6 to Lowerhouses 'B'. The Lowerhouses team have now won three of their last four matches and all by the same 6-2 scoreline as they start to climb away from the lower regions of the table.
Bumper issue of 22 photographs from this week's Division 3 fixtures follows on later today.
