Winter League
We have had two more new teams sign up to join the Winter League for the 2023-24 season both from the same club. The two teams are Cowcliffe A and Cowcliffe B and their bowlers are likely to be predominantly ladies.
With Outlane, Broad Oak and Thorpe Green D already coming forward to join us for next season that means we have 5 new teams to date with over 2 months still to go before the July deadline for new teams. We are also talking to three other teams who have expressed an interest in joining the League but nothing is confirmed at present.
One more new team will trigger the need for a new Division 6 with plans already in hand to use the green at Huddersfield RUBC as a sixth host green should the demand be there. In fact we can accommodate up to 14 new teams on 6 host greens (9 teams per division) so new teams are unlikely to be turned away but to be on the safe side we will be working to a first-come-first-served scenario so get those applications in ASAP.
For the last two years the League has extended by the same number of teams - in 2021 there were 13 new teams taking the total from 14 up to 27. Then in 2022 there were another 13 new teams to take the total up to 40 teams. Maybe we are on the way to another 13-team increase again this year which would take us past the milestone 50-team barrier. That's a big ask but if that does happen then we would look to form a Division 7 and that would require another new host green for the coming season.
We are very receptive to hearing from any club that may be interested in becoming a host green at some time in the future. Whether that be for the coming 2023-24 winter season or just a general interest in what may be involved and what the benefits are likely to be to entice any club into a hosting arrangement. Contact the League Secretary as below for full details.
We have also been advised of a team name change for next season. The Marsh Lib team will become the Lindley Lib 'C' team for the 2023-24 season.
The closing date for new team applications for the new season is Monday 3 July 2023. You can learn more about what winter bowling is all about by reading our Ultimate Guide to Winter Bowling.
