Match Day Review: Leaders beaten at home

Winter League

The first round of fixtures in the two-a-week catch-up period saw Milnsbridge 'A' lose top spot after being beaten 2-4 by Lindley BC. The teams shared the games but a 3-point aggregate advantage for Lindley saw them claim the extra two points. Although Lindley have now won 4 of their 5 matches to date they can only claim fourth place in the league table but were much too hot for the host club.

With Milnsbridge being beaten on their own lawn it left the door open for Lowerhouses 'A' to take advantage and they were quick to seize that opportunity with a 5-1 victory over the Milnsbridge 'B' making their debut in the competition after taking over the HRC fixtures. That was a harsh introduction to the competition and they will be comforted by the thought that that was as difficult as it is likely to be at this level. The other match at Milnsbridge saw Thorpe Green have a comprehensive 5-1 win over Meltham to retain third place.

On the Springwood green there was no such bother for the leaders as Clayton West continued on their way with a third 6-0 whitewash win of the season with Denby Dale this time being on the receiving end. That result coupled with a 5-1 win over second-placed Rastrick, enabled Kirkheaton Con to leapfrog two teams to capture second place. Huddersfield Recreation Club 'A' would surely have claimed their first win of the season if they had managed to put out a full team. One bowler short but the three who did play won two of the games and held a 58-51 aggregate lead over Springwood at that point. However that one bowler short meant a 0-21 reversal and a complete turnaround of the aggregate scores and a 2-4 loss

Match of the Day among this week's Thursday fixtures is the Milnsbridge green encounter of the top two as leaders Lowerhouses 'A' and host club Milnsbridge 'A' go head-to-head.
